Counting 1:1 - A Big Mess of Fun

One of the things we continue to work on in the classroom is one to one counting.  A fun way to do this is by using our numbers on the floor.  The kids each get a box of toys or counting manipulatives from the cubbies and start counting.
It's a big mess of FUN!!!!

It's Tower Time - Counting 1-10

We have been working on our numbers 1-10.  This fun little game gets us working with a partner, counting, and writing all at the same time.  One partner builds a tower using blocks and the other partner counts and writes the number.  During this time we also work on praising each other and helping if needed.
Check out this great little pack for printing numbers.  It includes printing pages for 1-10, 1-20, 1-50 and 1-100.  There are also tracing pages for 1-10 and 1-20.

Reindeer Fun, Santa's Reindeer School

I can't believe it, we have only two and a half weeks until Christmas break.  Wow!!!  Really, I have to say it, "Where has the year gone?"

Today we started getting ready for Santa, and we talked about how Santa has to get ready too.  Yeah!  Like ...... training his reindeer! All the reindeer must go to reindeer school before they can help fly the sleigh.
First, Santa has to decide which reindeer get to go to school this year, so we used our greater than, less than and equal worksheet to help him out.  (The reindeer with the bigger number got to go to school this year.)  They loved it! There was even a tie (equal).  :0)
I have several other activities planned to help Santa.   This cute little unit, Reindeer Fun - Santa's Reindeer School, is filled with activities to help Santa and his reindeer get ready.  We are going to be ordering numbers by 5s and 10s (lining up the reindeer for inspection) and making true statements with our reindeer flashcards using the Elf's greater than, less than, and equal signs.  Once the final reindeer have been selected, we will make them and get them ready to fly Santa's sleigh.  (My door is decorated like a big Santa with his bag of toys.)  More pictures to come - Yeah!!!

This math unit is available on TpT.  It includes ordering numbers by 5s and 10s worksheets, 4 different greater than, less than, equal worksheets, and flashcards for counting 0-20, by 5s, and by 10s.

Don't forget to check back to see more pictures and for updates on how our reindeer are doing.

Count and Write with Me!

We have been working on 1:1 counting and printing for numbers up to 20.  Some of my students are doing really well, but some of them are still unsure about the numbers over 10.  I like to do a lot of our activities in pairs if possible so there is support and encouragement.
We play a little game called Count and Write with Me.  One student, the "teacher,"  writes down a number between 1 & 20 on a white board.  (We have our number lines with us for support.)  Then they show it to the other person, the "student."  The student has to tell the teacher what the number is and then count out that many objects.  We have a lot of manipulatives in our classroom, so they love it when I tell them they get to pick what objects they will be working with that day. :)
I have them count out loud to their partner, while the partner counts in his/her head and "checks."  If they are right they get a star!  If they are incorrect, then the "teacher" (I have so many great little teachers), help them fix it.  When you tell them they get to be the teacher, their faces just light up

Where's My Mummy Counting Freebie

Today we read the book, Where's My Mummy.  This is such a cute story!  Baby Mummy searches everywhere for his Mommy Mummy.  :)
I had a room full of excited little boys and girls when I told them that we were going to turn some of them into mummies.  Wow!  All you need is a little roll of toilet paper, and you can change the world into one exciting place.

After we cleaned up the room.....lol.....we had to do a little work.  I created these fun little Where's My Mummy counting worksheets to accompany the book and our fantastic activity.  One page works on numbers 1-10, and one page works on numbers 11-20.  The kids have to count and match Baby Mummy with his Mommy Mummy.
I like this activity because I can challenge my kids that are ready with numbers 11-20, and my other students who still need practice on 1-10 don't feel like they are doing anything different.  :)  Click here to download this great little freebie, Where's My Mummy Counting, from TPT.

Free Friday - My Number Bus Book

This was a fun little book we used to work on ordering, 1:1 counting, and printing practice for numbers 0-10.  The kids cut the pages apart, and then put them in order.  I stapled the book together when they were finished.  There are many options from there. :)  First we traced and printed the number at the top of the page, then we put blocks in the bus window to match.  For a more permanent effect, we drew in dots to match the number! :)  They loved it!

You can download the book from TPT!

Number Flash Cards

Wow!! Week 3 is actually over, and I have to send progress reports home next week.  Have we really been in school that long???  Today we worked on identifying and ordering numbers 1-10.  I made cute number flash cards to match our "Star" theme in the room.  I also included star cards for matching!!  These kids are flying.  Most of them didn't have any problems with 1-10....I better get started on 11-20!! :)  These card are available on my TPT page.
